Warehouse Structures

Warehouse structures designed around the racking, the material flow and the loading bays — not around a standard bay that the storage layout then has to accommodate.

Service information

A warehouse is designed from the racking outwards.

The expensive mistake in a warehouse is designing the building first and fitting the racking into it. Bay spacing that does not suit the rack pitch wastes floor area on every single run, permanently. We start from the storage layout and the material flow — rack pitch, aisle width, turning circles, dock height — and set the structural grid to serve them.

The rest follows: clear height set by the rack height plus the sprinkler and lighting zone, loading elevations set by the vehicle, and a roof and drainage design that suits a building nobody wants to work on once it is full.

What we make

What we manufacture and deliver.

Any one of these can be contracted on its own, or the whole interior delivered under a single award against one drawing set and one schedule. Everything listed is manufactured, supplied and installed by us — not sub-let after award.

  • Warehouse Frames

The primary structure, with the grid set by the storage layout rather than by a default bay.

    • Structural grid set from the rack pitch
    • Clear height to rack top plus services zone
    • Designed to IS 800 with loads to IS 875
    • Future extension allowed for where required
  • Storage Bays

Internal bays laid out to the aisle widths and turning circles the handling equipment needs.

    • Aisle widths to the handling equipment
    • Column positions clear of rack runs
    • Turning and staging areas allowed for
    • Laid out from the storage plan you send
  • Roof Framing & Services Zone

Roof structure detailed to carry the services a warehouse actually hangs from it.

    • Roof framing and purlin design
    • Provision for sprinkler and lighting runs
    • Ventilation and roof lights where specified
    • Rainwater goods sized to the roof area
  • Loading Elevations

The face of the building where vehicles meet it — the detail that decides how the warehouse operates.

    • Dock and loading bay openings
    • Levels set to the vehicle bed height
    • Canopy and weather protection where specified
    • Door openings sized to the handling equipment

Standards & compliance

Built to the standards this work is inspected against.

Wording here is deliberate: we design and manufacture to these criteria.

  • Steel design IS 800:2007, as the design basis issued with the tender.
  • Loading IS 875 Parts 1 to 5, including wind loading to the site zone.
  • Seismic IS 1893, to the zone for your site.
  • Material IS 2062 hot-rolled structural steel, grade as specified.
  • Scope note the codes above are the design and fabrication basis this work is engineered and inspected to. They are not third-party certification of it. Our ISO 9001, ISO 13485 and ISO 50001 certificates are scoped to furniture manufacture and do not extend to structural steel; MSME ZED Gold and the Lean certification are plant-level and do. Every certificate and its scope is published on our certifications page.

Why Finex

Why departments place this work with us.

  • 01

One organisation from design to erection

Design, fabrication and site erection under one contract. The alternative is a fabricator, an erector and an argument about which of them owns a misaligned bay.

  • 02

    Fabricated in our own plants

Cutting, forming, welding and finishing happen across our two plants in Dindori, Nashik — more than 1,00,000 sq. ft. — so nothing waits on an outside vendor between stages.

  • 03

Designed to the code set you issue

The load cases, the design code and the site conditions come with your drawing set, and we engineer to what is issued rather than to a house standard.

  • 04

    Honest about certificate scope

Our ISO certificates are scoped to furniture, and we say so on this page rather than letting a badge imply cover it does not have. What applies here is stated per page.

FAQ

Questions we get on this scope.

If yours is not here, ask — we would rather answer it properly.

Yes, and it is the single most useful thing you can do before tendering. Bay spacing that does not suit the rack pitch wastes floor area on every run for the life of the building. Send the racking layout — or the pallet count, the rack type and the handling equipment — and the structural grid will be set to serve it.

The design basis comes with the tender — the load cases, the governing code and the site conditions are issued with the drawing set and we engineer to what is issued. In India that is normally IS 800 for the steel design, IS 875 Parts 1 to 5 for dead, imposed, wind and snow loads, IS 1893 for seismic, and IS 2062 for the plate and section material. If you want the codes and load assumptions confirmed for a specific enquiry before you shortlist us, ask and we will state them in writing for that scope.

Rack top height plus the services zone above it — sprinklers, lighting and any conveyor. That is usually more than people allow for, and it cannot be added later. Tell us the rack height and whether the building is sprinklered and we will set the eave height from it.

Yes, if it is designed for phasing from the start. Gable framing, bracing and the foundation at the future extension line all change if a second phase is coming. Say so at design stage and phase two is a straightforward extension; say so afterwards and it is a rebuild of the end bay.

Send the drawing set, the bill of quantities or the tender document. You get back a priced scope and a dated programme against your milestones, and we will tell you plainly if any part of the scope is outside what we manufacture rather than quoting it and buying it in later.

Send us the drawing.

A tender number, a specification or a drawing set — we will confirm what we can build and by when, within two working days.
