On a steel project, ambiguity in the drawing set becomes a variation on site. We work the engineering through in the order it should be worked: site data and load cases first, then a design basis you approve, then general arrangement drawings, then the approved-for-construction shop drawings the shop and the erectors work to.
Because we also fabricate and erect, the drawings are written by people who will have to build from them. That closes the loop that opens up when the designer and the fabricator have never met.

Yes — this is offered as its own scope. It is worth knowing that we also fabricate and erect, because it means the drawings are written by people who have to build from them; but the engineering can be contracted on its own and frequently is.
The design basis comes with the tender — the load cases, the governing code and the site conditions are issued with the drawing set and we engineer to what is issued. In India that is normally IS 800 for the steel design, IS 875 Parts 1 to 5 for dead, imposed, wind and snow loads, IS 1893 for seismic, and IS 2062 for the plate and section material. If you want the codes and load assumptions confirmed for a specific enquiry before you shortlist us, ask and we will state them in writing for that scope.
A design basis for your approval, general arrangement drawings for departmental approval, and approved-for-construction shop drawings including the anchor bolt setting plan the civil work needs. What is in the set is fixed in the contract — we would rather agree the document list before award than negotiate it at handover.
We prepare and issue what the approval needs and revise through the cycle. The approval itself is granted by the department, not by us, and no engineering organisation can promise you an outcome that is in someone else’s gift.
Send the drawing set, the bill of quantities or the tender document. You get back a priced scope and a dated programme against your milestones, and we will tell you plainly if any part of the scope is outside what we manufacture rather than quoting it and buying it in later.
